Kevin Prier, MD, is dual-specialized in internal medicine (adult medicine) and pediatrics.  Dr. Prier joined Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center in August of 2022.  He has specific interests in high-value, preventive medicine, including diabetes care, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, thyroid disease, and osteoporosis.  His training in both adult medicine and pediatrics gives him a unique perspective on the care of patients with life-long medical diseases, such as diabetes.

Dr. Prier has a passion for helping patients as they transition through different life stages from childhood through adulthood.  He loves people and teamwork.  He finds satisfaction in creating strong relationships with his patients as he helps them prevent illness and achieve their desired health goals.

After completing his undergraduate work at Brigham Young University (magna cum laude), Kevin attended and graduated from medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern, where he was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society.  After medical school, Dr. Prier completed a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at Duke University Medical Center where he received the YT Chen Award for excellence in patient care.

Clinical & Research Background

While at Duke, Dr. Prier was involved in quality improvement projects dealing with the appropriate use of aspirin for primary prevention in adults with and without diabetes.  Dr. Prier has also presented additional research abstracts and presentations investigating conditions that included cardiovascular disease and severe atopic dermatitis.  He participated in global health projects that included researching metabolic syndrome among adolescents and adults in mainland China.

Personal Background

Kevin was born and raised in Texas and married an Idaho girl.  He and his wife served missions for their church in Taiwan.  They met while teaching Chinese at the Missionary Training Center, while they attended BYU in Provo, Utah.  Together they have three beautiful daughters who keep them busy!  The family loves animals, which currently includes two cats, a goldendoodle, and a miniature pony.  More farm animals are anticipated in the near future.

While his favorite personal time is spent with his family, he enjoys participating in sports, especially tennis, basketball, and golf.  He is a huge fan of BYU, Duke, and all Texas sports teams.
