Administration

Von Crofts – General Manager

Von Crofts has been the general manager of Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center since February 2004. As such, he works with both the administrative and clinical teams to meet the ever-changing needs of the practice.

Von is also the general manager for each of the family of businesses which includes, Express Lab, Rocky Mountain Clinical Research and Rocky Mountain Pharmacy.

Together with the entire care team, Von works behind the scenes to ensure patients receive optimal clinical care and an exceptional overall experience. Von works diligently to create an environment and the essential services that provide healing and comfort for patients.

Von and his wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of seven children and grandparents to a growing number of grandchildren. They love spending time with their family in the outdoors. Von is an avid runner and contributes his time to service in his church and community.

Lisa Walker – Business Office Manager

Lisa Walker - Business Office Manager

Lisa began her career with Rocky Mountain Diabetes in October 2000 working part time in the billing office. As her children grew and she transitioned to full time, she quickly advanced into a management role and has worked as the business office manager since 2002.

Lisa oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable and the human resources of the clinic. She does a remarkable job keeping up with the fast-paced practice, which has grown from two to five providers and from fifteen to over ninety employees. Keeping up with the many facets of insurance, employee benefits, and technology requirements is a daunting task that Lisa handles with poise and persistence.

Enjoying time with her husband, two children, and darling grandchildren is her favorite pastime. She loves traveling, golfing and working on the occasional home remodeling project with her family.

Nurses

We have some of the friendliest and caring nurses in the area! During your appointments, one of these compassionate nurses will tend to your needs as your provider prepares for your visit.

CNAs and Medical Assistants

Our medical assistants and certified nurse assistants are second to none. As part of our nursing staff, they too, are some of the most friendly and caring nurses around! You will likely receive care from one of our assistants during your doctor’s visit.

Education

Becky Sulik – Director of Education

Diabetes Educator - Becky Sulik

Becky Sulik is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator for Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center. She works closely with physicians and patients to facilitate the best diabetes self-management education.

Becky is also a certified pump trainer.  She is uniquely qualified because she has diabetes herself and has worn a variety of insulin pumps for about 30 years. Becky Sulik obtained a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Idaho State University and has been a nutrition advocate ever since.

Becky is married and has three children. She loves chocolate, cats, reading and traveling. Along with her husband Mark, she enjoys supporting her children who actively participate in competitive ballroom dancing.

Our diabetes educators are passionately involved with the education and training of patients who suffer from diabetes or other endocrine disease. Along with the healthcare providers, they work closely with physicians, patients and family members to provide understanding and assistance along the road to self-management of diabetes.

Laboratory

Express Lab Manager

As the manager of Express Lab, Lori is busy keeping the ever expanding medical laboratory running efficiently. With over 25 years of management experience, she understands the importance of patient care and all of the internal intricacies that keep the medical laboratory running efficiently.

Lori enjoys the opportunity to work with people and help make their lab experience a positive one. In fact, Lori is also an expert phlebotomist and phlebotomy instructor, which enables her to jump in and help wherever needed. She has a great vision for the future of Express Lab and leads the way with employees and healthcare providers, but most of all, with patients.

In her spare time, Lori loves spending time cooking, sewing, traveling, and attending musical theater performances. Her greatest joy is the time she spends with her family.

Andrew Scott – Laboratory Operations Manager

Andrew is a board certified ASCP laboratory technologist who has been managing the Express Lab laboratory operations since 2002. Under his direction, Express Lab continues to adapt and evolve with the ever-changing processes and regulations of clinical laboratory methods.

Andrew enjoys working in the medical laboratory where learning never ends. Together with his team, Andrew cares for patients through efficient processes that yield fast results.

In his spare time, Andrew can be found on the basketball court as a volunteer coach, for his kids.  He attends high school events to support his wife, who is a high school teacher. Along with raising children, he raises chickens, pigs, a dog and three cats!

The laboratory staff at Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center are experts in all areas of laboratory science. Clinical laboratory reports are critical to the treatment of our patients, and this group ensures fast and accurate results.

Drawing blood for laboratory tests requires a unique skill set. Our patients appreciate the talent and expertise of our phlebotomists. They understand the normal apprehension patients feel when they need to provide a blood sample and help our patients with minimal discomfort.

Clinical Research

Joshua Smith, MD, MBA – Medical Director of Clinical Research

Dr. Joshua Smith - Pediatric endorinologistsJoshua Smith, MD, MBA is a board-certified physician in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. Dr. Smith attended Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience. Dr. Smith was the first to graduate from the joint MD/MBA program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and the University of Texas at Dallas School of Business.

Dr. Smith has been active in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES), and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). He was elected as the chair of the Section on Medical Students, Residents, and Fellowship Trainees while in his residency.

While in his fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology, Dr. Smith performed research to look at the different hormones of the adrenal gland and how they relate to premature adrenarche. He also leveraged the electronic medical record at Children’s Medical Center Dallas to review the treatment of children with congenital hypothyroidism. Other clinical interests include type 1 diabetes, disorders of puberty and growth, thyroid diseases, adrenal disorders, and calcium regulation.

Mark Sulik, PharmD, CCRP – Director of Clinical Research

Mark Sulik, PharmD, CCRP

Mark B Sulik is the director of clinical research for Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center. As a PharmD and Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Mark is uniquely qualified to manage our research projects.

Mark ensures strict standards and regulatory requirements are maintained as required by the FDA and other agencies. Mark also works very closely with the diabetes and endocrinology specialists, in conducting a variety of clinical trials. Mark’s meticulous nature facilitates the highest caliber of clinical research studies available in the United States and around the world.

Mark was born in Pocatello, Idaho and graduated from Soda Springs High School, where he was an accomplished trombone player. He married his best friend, Becky, and now enjoys supporting their children in their many activities.
